We have all become increasingly aware of what we put into our mouths, from ditching the aspartame laced sweeteners to avoiding gluten and only eating organic meat and dairy sourced from local farms. But what about what we put on our skin? 60% of what we put on our skin goes into our blood stream, and with the average woman using around 12 beauty products a day - this means she is likely to be exposed to 175 potentially harmful chemicals. Chemicals such as parabens (used as preservatives), petrochemicals (found in skin creams, foundations and lip balms), and phthalates (found in nail polishes and hair sprays) have all been shown to mimic the effects of hormones in the body, and when used in high levels possibly increase the risk of cancers, early puberty and decrease sperm levels. That’s not all; unbelievably, some of the same chemicals used in anti-freeze, brake fluid and engine degreaser have been found in our cosmetics and toiletries!

Natural, organic and paraben free cosmetics aren’t what they used to be. Cosmetics companies have finally woken up to the fact that natural cosmetics are in demand and it’s no longer only the weird, hemp-wearing woman wanting them. These days, not only do they come in stylish packaging and smell good enough to eat, they even have scientific research backing their natural results. To top it all off, natural and organic cosmetics are polar bear friendly, containing ingredients that breakdown harmlessly without polluting the environment.

To further convince you to make the natural switch, we have compiled a list of our ten ‘Must Try’ organic and natural cosmetics, from skincare to hair care and make-up.
