Gabi Garbutt showcases her trademark fusion of rowdy punk and uplifting, floor-filling soul on her second single ‘Lady Matador’, shared exclusively with 1883 today.  The single was inspired by the dancer Mia Malone, a regular at London burlesque spoken word night The Poetry Brothel who apparently does a mean matador-themed performance.

Probably her closest offering yet to the sound of her live band The Illuminations, who’ve been running riot in various London venues over the last few months.  You’ll hear echoes of the ragged troubadour glamour of Ezra Furman and The Libertines and the poetic punk attitude of The Clash or Patti Smith, all embellished with the brass section power of Dexy’s Midnight Runners.

Having already been invited to support The Libertines last Autumn, Gabi has been asked to join Frank Turner on the first night of his four night stint at the Camden Roundhouse on May 11, for tickets visit here.  ‘Lady Matador’ is out on the Famous Times label on April 20.
