Currently recording an album to be released early this year, Cave Painting have already garnered numerous labels’ attention and hype from a variety of publications. However they are as down to earth as they come, with a penchant for making the most beautiful videos to accompany their music. Your debut EP ‘You’ll Be Running Soon’ came out late last year, how would you describe it to those who haven’t heard your music before?

The EP is a collection of songs that came together really naturally, there are moments of calm and quiet contrasted by atmospherics and urgency.

Your sound is very experimental however your live show is something very captivating and enchanting- how do you think your sound transfers live?

I’d like to think our music is improved by being onstage, there’s a certain energy when you perform live it seems, you never really have the benefit of seeing your own show, so you just hope that comes across.

On stage Adam is quite something to watch. Does anything particularly inspire you and what runs through your head when performing?

Thank you. I think performing is one of the rare times when hardly anything is going through my head, and thoughts or worries disappear, I’m content.

As a band with quite an escapist sound, is there anything in particular you escape from in your music?

There are ideas of escapism running through the songs, these relate to leaving places, certain times and often feelings, everyone needs to escape from something.

You have released a mini-movie to go alongside the EP also entitled ‘Midnight Love’, what was the idea behind it and how did it come about?

We wanted something visual to accompany the E.P, but we wanted to avoid the traditional ’Pop Music Video’ so we decided to create a short film based around the opening track, ’Midnight Love’ We have a very talented friend Thomas Sargeant who took a team of people down to Cornwall to film it over a few days, the video is a visual interpretation of escapism and isolation, but it’s left open to interpretation.

You are a Brighton based band, are there any other upcoming acts from the scene, which you have grown with and can reflect from?

We haven’t really grown with anyone as such with us being a relatively new band, there are a lot of bands in Brighton- we’ve been enjoying Tigercub recently.

How did the band come to being?

Harry, Sam and Rich all lived down here in Brighton, and the band formed when Jon and myself ventured down from the north.

Hideout Recordings spotted you at your first gig in London. How did it feel to be immediately recognized as a talent?

We didn’t really think of it like that, at first it was quite overwhelming, then you feel happy that someone understands and appreciates what you are doing.

Has this hype around you affected your ethos at all, and if so how?

Yes but not in a negative way, if anything you just realize people are putting faith in you, you need to deliver and repay that faith, it’s also important to remember that hype is exactly that, all positive and negative feedback has to be taken with a pinch of salt as it’s all personal opinion, we just keep doing what we enjoy and hope people share in that.

You are currently recording your debut album, how is it all coming along?

I’m currently sat upstairs hearing the rest of the boys through the floor, it sounds wonderful everything is coming along well; we’ve decided to record the album live so there’s a different feel from what we’ve done before.

When is it due to be released and what else can we expect from you in the future?

Hopefully in the early months of this year, with a single ‘Rio’ from the album in January.
